Antimicrobials for Fermentation

Bacterial Contamination Control

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) compete with yeast for fermentable sugars, reduce ethanol yield, and produce organic acids that stress yeast and impair fermentation kinetics.

Mechanism of Action

Antibiotic formulations disrupt bacterial protein synthesis and cell wall integrity, selectively suppressing gram-positive bacteria while maintaining yeast viability. GRAS-compliant formulations available for FSMA environments.

  • Eliminates LAB contamination during fermentation
  • Restores fermentation efficiency in active infection situations
  • Improves ethanol yield by removing bacterial sugar competition
  • GRAS-suitable for FSMA-compliant operations
  • Compatible with sugarcane, corn, and molasses-based mashes

Hop Extracts

Natural Gram-Positive Bacterial Control

In operations where antibiotic residues in distillers grains are not acceptable — U.S. plants selling DDGS into livestock feed markets — hop extracts provide an effective, GRAS-suitable alternative.

Mechanism of Action

Iso-alpha acids from Humulus lupulus disrupt the proton motive force across gram-positive bacterial membranes, inhibiting Lactobacillus. Yeast cells are unaffected. No antibiotic residues remain in distillers grains.

  • No antibiotic residue in distillers grains (DDG/DDGS)
  • GRAS-suitable for FSMA-compliant operations
  • Effective in prevention and active infection treatment
  • Compatible with antibiotic rotation protocols

Enzymes — Sugar Processing & Refineries

Dextran Control & Starch Conversion

Sugar mills processing deteriorated cane face dextran accumulation from Leuconostoc activity and starch contamination — both increase viscosity and reduce sugar recovery.

Dextranase
Hydrolyzes dextran from Leuconostoc in deteriorated cane. Reduces viscosity in juice, syrup, and massecuite.
Amylase
Degrades starch contaminants in sugarcane juice. Prevents turbidity and filter blockage.
  • Reduces processing losses from dextran contamination
  • Improves sugar recovery and crystal quality
  • Prevents starch-related turbidity and filtration problems

Starch Liquefaction & Saccharification

Complete starch conversion is the foundation of corn ethanol economics. Alpha-amylase and glucoamylase work sequentially to maximize yield per bushel.

Alpha-Amylase
Thermostable endoamylase for starch liquefaction during high-temperature cooking.
Glucoamylase
Exoamylase for complete saccharification into fermentable glucose. SSF compatible. Reduces residual starch in DDGS.
  • Improved ethanol yield per bushel of corn
  • Reduced residual starch in beer and DDGS
  • Compatible with simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF)

Markets We Serve

One entity.
Multiple markets.

Adaptech operates from with active commercial presence in the United States, Brazil, and Latin America — with deep operational knowledge of each market.

🇧🇷

Brazil

Sugarcane Ethanol · Sugar Mills

World\'s largest sugarcane ethanol producer. Continuous fermentation. Safra seasonality. Warm temperatures. Integrated sugar-ethanol operations.

Key Operational Challenges

LAB Contamination in High-Sugar Environments

Sugarcane fermentation is uniquely susceptible to gram-positive bacterial contamination. LAB infections reduce yield and destabilize yeast populations across the campaign.

Dextran from Deteriorated Cane

Dextran from Leuconostoc in delayed cane increases viscosity throughout processing. Dextranase reduces viscosity and protects sugar recovery.

Starch Contamination

Starch in cane causes turbidity and filtration problems. Amylase prevents processing losses and reduces filter blockage risk.

Corn Ethanol · Dry-Mill Plants

Dry-mill corn ethanol dominant. FSMA compliance required. Adaptech Bio Solutions LLC based in .

Key Operational Challenges

FSMA Compliance and GRAS Requirements

Only GRAS-status inputs are acceptable for plants selling DDGS into livestock markets. Adaptech supplies GRAS-compliant formulations with full FSMA documentation.

Starch Conversion Efficiency

Sequential alpha-amylase and glucoamylase ensures complete starch conversion, maximizing yield per bushel and minimizing residual starch in DDGS.

Bacterial Contamination in High-Gravity Fermentations

High-solids corn mashes favor LAB contamination, particularly damaging to yeast health and ethanol yield.

About

Built by people who
know fermentation
from the inside.

Adaptech was built by professionals with direct operational experience in industrial fermentation — not as consultants, but as people who worked inside plants.

"We know what keeps a plant manager awake at night — and we show up with the right answer."
Industrial fermentation is not a theoretical discipline. Contamination events happen at 2am. Yield losses compound across a campaign. Regulatory documentation gets requested at the border. Adaptech was built by people who have been on the receiving end of all of these situations.
